Project description:

This project addresses the research question: Is it possible to develop an architecture in which:

  • we can cope dynamically with new or changing concrete services that can be performed by agents,
  • the emerging need for new  or changed composite tasks can be facilitated,
  • complex applications can be built using a large number of simple highly-interactive components
  • implements result from coordination research such as coordination languages and multi-agent planning.

The idea is that the architecture has to be able to coordinate groups of agents that are working on the execution of high level tasks by offering their concrete services. The coordination needs to be carried out both for the resource management and the communication (embedding in existing communication and organization structures).

Some key prerequisites of the architecture which we propose are as follows:

  • separate application functionality from coordination of concurrency,
  • ability of the platform to cope with very large amounts of distributed components,
  • provides a tool for building robust applications using redundancy and feedback-based adaptability, flexible and easy-to-use API that allows dynamic upgrades both at the application level and the level of coordination strategies.
