| WP4.5 Generic Reflective Autonomic Management (GRAM) |

Organization responsible: Thales Research & Technology, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam People involved:
Project description: The GRAM project aims to define a generic framework for reflective autonomic self- management for organizations within Actor-Agent Communities functioning in a complex chaotic environment. The view of an organization encompasses multiple levels of organization: varying from the actor-agent level to underlying middleware and resource levels within an organization. Entities within these layers have a variation in autonomy. Management is performed based on quality of service. Interdependencies between autonomic management processes: Quality of Service policy managers at each of these different levels are made explicit: higher level goals are translated to lower level goals. Quality of Service policy manager at each of these levels is responsible for fulfilling these goals: adapting their policies when necessary. The theories, models and architectures will be validated for one or more ICIS crisis management scenarios. Within this research two themes are identified:
Potential gains from this project are, e.g., the increase of autonomy of automated supporting systems, enabling both (local) self-management and (distributed) system-wide management, automated aggregation of high-level (e.g. task-based) QoS constraints to low-level system (e.g. resource-based) constraints.
