Project description:

In Q1/2006, the research on Dynamic cache initialization for dynamically changing network configurations was completed. That is, certain synchronization between hosts is needed when these cooperate on shared, distributed objects. Current techniques rely on static protocols that assume a fixed configuration of hosts in a network, in order to locate and share and objects concurrently and ensure coherent behavior. In addition real-time requirements are often not met when large caches are initialized. Dynamic cache initialization protocols have been designed that support dynamically changing networked configurations such as grids and distributed systems. When a host appears in the network it is then synchronized smartly with the current status of the shared data, and subsequently or simultaneously this host can participate in managing this data, while maintaining real-time performance of the network and the host during cache synchronization. In addition, there is “zero-administration” for this host to join a network of hosts.
To define a grid technology to provide agents and legacy software services with robust dynamic ad-hoc network environments. In particular, we will focus on

  • static data replication protocols for dynamic networks to adapt them to use  in dynamic networks
  • tunable, attribute based evaluation of service provision, where the level of service depends on context of evaluation
  • suitable definition of (weak) consistency, adapting to zero configuration protocols for ad-hoc networks
  • ‘Proof of principle’  of proposed solutions

This data distribution grid will be the self-forming self-healing layer under an SMDS managed, federated system.
