Here different channels of input are being used together to reduce uncertainty. For example, when someone is speaking to their computer the message detected by the audio equipment is analysed together with the shapes formed by the lips as picked up by the cameras to rule out as many ambiguities as possible. The equivalent, as it was, of simultaneously hearing and lip reading. Publications:
